“We are delighted with the transformation in our home brought about by the Willow Design team, led by Jean. Their advice and “no fuss” approach were invaluable and made the whole process a pleasure, carried out with courteousness and humour. Our stunning home is the result of their expertise and attention to detail.”
Our brief was to create a warm, welcoming home with a relaxed, timeless atmosphere. Considered and stylish to enhance our clients’ busy lifestyle but robust enough to withstand frequent visits from the grandchildren!
The large light filled down stairs living space already had a natural oak floor, built in shelving and neutral curtains but furniture wise it was pretty much a blank canvas. The owner’s preference for clean, simple lines, frill free fabrics, natural wood and a neutral palette meant textures and tones led the way. Unbleached linens, charcoal wool, rattan and stone create an easy environment to kick back and relax while removable covers and rugs that scrub keep things practical.
The upstairs storage badly needed updating. The master bedroom had poorly functioning sliding wardrobe doors, which were replaced and the ugly, dated built in storage in the guest room was also replaced with a sleek bank of simple wall to wall shaker style cupboards. Perhaps the biggest change was rearranging the study layout so the desk is hidden behind an alcove and the view from the hallway is of an inviting day bed, just the spot for some hard ‘work’.
Much loved older pieces of furniture were in some cases reupholstered and the addition of contemporary lighting keeps things fresh and modern. Our finishing touch was to re-frame and group the owner’s art and picture collection to ease it into the refreshed spaces.
